Face-to-face Instructor Training

Attending face-to-face training 

Where accreditation requires face-to-face course completion, please ensure that you are prepared to get the most out of your training. Below is important information and access to relevant resources. 

Preparation: 

  • Complete any required e-learning for accreditation prior to attending the face-to-face course.
  • Review Program videos, run sheets, and activity cards specific to your course, ensuring that you are familiar with the content, sequencing, and activities. (see links below).
  • Complete a Risk Identification Plan for three risks associated with the program, including mitigation strategies. Use the Risk Assessment Template available via the links below, and bring it to the course. 
  • Rehearse skill demonstrations focusing on Key Teaching Points and the EDICP method.
  • Familiarise yourself with the vessel type used in your course.
  • Ensure you meet all accreditation requirements and skills.

What to Bring: 

  • Completed Risk Identification Plan.
  • Suitable clothing for on-land and on-water activities (e.g., wetsuit, life jacket, warm clothes, waterproof jacket).
  • A positive and active attitude for theory, role plays, on-water, and off-water activities.
  • Maritime Licence (if applicable in your state).
  • Pen and notebook.
  • Water, snacks, and lunch (depending on location). 

Other Information: 

  • You will not gain accreditation with Australian Sailing until all course components (eLearning & face-to-face learning) and all pre-requisites are completed.
  • Continuous assessment will take place during the course with feedback provided. If competency is not achieved, an action plan will be provided.
  • Upon accreditation, you will be responsible for training and assessing participants in accordance with Australian Sailing standards.
