A Safety Information Notice has been published to the Australian Sailing website.

Australian Sailing has recently issued a Safety Information Notice concerning electronic charts. The Notices serves to complement the recent amendment to the Special Regulations permitting boats to rely solely on electronic charts and associated systems.

The Safety Information Notice informs the reader about the differences between raster and vector charts, official Electronic Navigational Charts and unofficial charts, and the supporting navigation systems.

Notwithstanding that there is no longer a requirement to carry paper charts, boats in certain races may consider it prudent to do so.
