ORC and IRC application process
Published Thu 07 Sep 2023
When applying for a certificate it is a totally online task completed via the ratings hub. This enables boat owners to take advantage of a streamlined and improved application processes for both ORC and IRC certificates.
To start an application for an IRC service, click on the IRC logo in the hub and choose the application type. This will open an application form; all application forms follow the same format and will calculate the payment based on the length of the of the boat (LH given on the certificate) or quantity ordered.
On each application page there is a link to download the measurement spreadsheet, these are specifically required for each of the various types of IRC application. The spreadsheets are used to enter any changes made to the yacht for this year’s application, only the changes should be entered. Where changes have been made to the displacement, overhangs, poles, bowsprit and/or sails these must be certified by an accredited measurer with their name or number entered next to each change. Your measurer will supply this spreadsheet to you after the measurements have been completed, if you do not receive one ask for it. When the spreadsheet has the correct information on it, upload it with the application. Measurement spreadsheets need to be uploaded in their original format.
ORC is generally the same process as for IRC with one exception, when applying for a new ORCi certificate. With a new application the measurements and inclining data must be supplied by a measurer who will create a specific data file which they send directly to the Rating Office. The Rating Office holds this file until an application is received from the yacht’s owner or representative.
Certificates are processed by the rating office within 15 working days of the application. Expediated processing is available which reduces the processing time to between 3 and 5 days, the cost for this is doubling of the application fee.
The ratings hub is found here.
