On the rules with Amelia Catt
Published Sat 04 Nov 2023
Amelia Catt has raced in well-known Australian dinghy classes, starting in the Flying 11 and Sabot working her way through a career high world ranking of #1. Also a highly accredited coach practicing all of Australia, Amelia shares her key tips on the rules.
- “Read the sailing instructions to see how many circles you need to do in a regatta!” Amelia has seen people get caught out by only doing one penalty turn when the sailing instructions have changed it to two. “Don’t be that silly person who assumes.”
- Amelia’s second piece of advice is “to make sure that your safety equipment is up to standard. Sailors can be and do get penalties by the measurement team of a regatta if their safety equipment does not meet the standard. Ensuring that your equipment is up to standard not only keeps you out of trouble from a rules perspective but also keeps you and others safe on the racecourse.”
