Introducing Greg Dixon

Name: Greg Dixon – Australian Sailing Education & Training Coordinator
Clubs: St George Sailing Club and Woollahra Sailing Club, Sydney.
Level of Officials Accreditation: State Race Officer and Class Measurer (18ft Skiffs and Int Moth Class).

Role within Australian Sailing: Greg has been with AS since December 2015 and coordinates the National Officiating Program and associated components, including:
• National Equipment Auditing Scheme, including policy, training and accreditation.
• Officials, including policies, training, accreditation and development opportunities.
• Education and training of officials, including seminar content, online courses and associated resources.

Greg started sailing when he was 8 years old at St George Sailing Club.  His fascination with fast and technical boats which resulted in a long love affair with sailing and constructing his own International Moth, Int14 and 18foot skiffs. He also spent most of his 20’s and 30’s instructing and coaching dinghies and small keelboats.

Greg said being involved in racing at competitive clubs with competitive classes were reasons he became involved in higher level completion and race officiating.

Some of the achievements that Greg has been a part of with Australian Sailing: 
• Updating to the new RevSport database 
• Created new Officials pages and Officials Resources on the new AS website.
• Created the world’s first Online Mark Layers Course.
• Drafted the new National Accreditation Policy for all Race Officials disciplines which include implementing new online learning, exams and qualitative performance assessment.

Current projects Greg is working on:
Progressing the National Judges policy to be public facing and developing all Race Officers Online learning. These two are part of a large project that is focussed on improving the accessibility of Officials education and assessment whilst ensuring the continued quality in accreditation and reaccreditation.

It will be the first to offer Race Officials online learning with streamlined accreditation processes for all levels of accreditation. Additionally it will improve member access to education materials and examinations, other Officials resources and positively impacting distance education.
