Australian Sailing would like to thank the Race Officers whose contribution was essential to develop the new Race Officer Policy released in 2023. The new policy and its resources facilitate training and accreditation for Race Officers and positively benefits the sailing community through improved quality of race officials.
Australian Sailing would like to thank the Race Officers that collaborated with management to develop the new Race Officer Policy released in 2023. The aim of the new policy and its related resources is to facilitate accreditation for entry-level Race Officers and improve the overall quality of Course and Principal Race Officers to positively benefit our sailing community.

The project involved the creation of:
- A new Policy stating the key details to accredit and reaccredit as a Race Officer.
- A new free of charge e-learning, to accredit as an entry-level Race Officer (Race Management Team Members - Mark Layer, Committee and Finish Boat, or Scorer and Handicapper).
- New Practical Assessments by which:
- Race Officer candidates can be evaluated whilst performing their role for performance feedback, accreditation, or reaccreditation purposes.
- Assessors can provide consistent evaluations and return quality feedback to candidates.
- A new Race Officer seminar to improve Regional and National level candidate experience, knowledge, and networking.
- A new Race Officer exam to assess a Regional and National level candidates’ knowledge.
- A new Officials Events log (including events guidance) that can be used to log experience across all official disciplines.
