Does your sports boat need measuring for CBH?
Published Wed 30 Nov 2022
Sports boats wanting to use a CBH rating for an event need to check to see if they need to be measured.
The purpose of CBH has always been to encourage, where possible, the rating of boats as a one design class raying on class rules and generic data. So, if there is a CBH for a sports boat class, and the boat fully complies with the class rule then there is no need to be measured. The sports boat may take advantage of the CBH for its class.
However, if there is any alteration or modification to a sports boat or its equipment so that does not align with its orginal class rules then it will require re-measurement and Australian Sailing will allocate a CBH specific to the boat. This is what CBH refers to as 'one of a kind'.
Sports boats that are considered one of a kind are not always modified from a class. They can also be a unique design where there is no class, or a class that has open rules which allow for variation in sails, spars or other measured data. If you are the owner of one of a kind boat that can't fit in any class either because it has been modified or because it's a unique design you can apply online for a CBH rating using data taken by an approved measurer. These applications should be submitted in as much detail as possible and provide the same information as that required for one design class sports boats.
