CBH rule updated
Published Wed 15 May 2024
The CBH system was subject of two reviews in recent months, the first being to update the rule used to control how CBH ratings are issued and used, and the second to look at the ratings themselves.
The CBH rule has been updated with what was largely administrative housekeeping. Stakeholders provided some terrific feedback on a draft that was put out for public consultation. The feedback received has led to changes in the version ultimately published. The rule has been uploaded on the CBH page and is effective from 1 July 2024.
The ratings, however, are unchanged providing stability for the upcoming events and seasons. There were two reasons for this. The first was that the feedback provided primarily wanted it to take into account boats’ performance, which is not its purpose being a measurement based system. The second was that improve the calculations and subsequent ratings, additional measurements would be needed from all classes, and boats with individual CBH ratings. Care was taken to not impose impractical or costly changes onto the Australian trailable yacht and sports boat fleet.
Many people from the trailable yacht and sports boat fleets took the time to provide input on both exercises. Australian Sailing is appreciative of the level of interest from the sailing community.
