Senior Instructor
The Senior Instructor's role is to deliver assistant instructor and instructor training courses on behalf of Australian Sailing and to assess the skills and knowledge of potential instructors.
Senior instructors are also responsible for participating in workshops to help the Chief Instructor develop courses and standards, and conducting instructor reaccreditations and assessments.
Senior instructors act on behalf of Australian Sailing and are responsible for maintaining the integrity of Australian Sailing's National Programs by delivering quality Instructor Training.
All senior instructor appointments are valid within 3 year increments.
Becoming a Senior Instructor
Senior Instructors are appointed by Australian Sailing, once a person has attended Senior Instructor Training and been deemed competent to; run instructor training, provide feedback and assess candidates consistently and fairly.
Those who wish to express an interest in becoming a Senior Instructor should be qualified instructors in the relevant program to the highest level (i.e Powerboat Safety Boat Instructor, Dinghy Racing Instructor and Keelboat Racing Instructor) and have a thorough knowledge of the structure and syllabus of the program. Performance at demonstrating this, combined with experience and overall instructional ability will be assessed during the Senior Instructor training.
Please note: you need to be available to run at least one instructor course per year and be involved in local events such as instructor conferences.
Remaining Current
Senior Instructors remain current by ensuring their lower level qualification are valid therefore; keeping all relevant external qualifications up to date on their mySailor Profile, paying the annual renewal fee and completing instructor reaccreditation if the qualification is due to lapse.
Senior Instructor Reappointment
To be reappointed the Senior Instructor shall meet the following requirements:
- Maintain currency in their lower-level qualifications in the revelant program
- Be supported by their Australian Sailing Club Services Officer (or Regional Manager) for reappointment as a Senior Instructor.
- Attend at least one Instructor Conference over the three year period.
- Have conducted a minimum of one Instructor Course per year over the three year period.
If a Senior Instructor is unable to meet any of the above requirements they should contact the Education and Training Manager at Australian Sailing.
